Accreditation Committee

The Accreditation Committee is accountable to the Canberra Region Medical Education Council (CRMEC) for the development of standards and accreditation of training positions and institutions.

CRMEC Accreditation Standards

Functions

The functions of the Accreditation Committee are to:

  • Provide expert advice to the CRMEC on matters relating to accreditation of prevocational medical training and undertake accreditation and monitoring of prevocational trainee medical posts, clinical units, facilities and networks with the ACT Network

  • Development of processes, guidelines and standards for postgraduate medical training accreditation which are consistent with the national accreditation guidelines and frameworks

  • Assessment of applications for accreditation of positions against current standards by document review and site visits as appropriate

  • Advise the ACT Board of the Medical Board of Australia on the institutional requirements for intern training

Accreditation policies, resources and forms

In 2023, the Australian Medical Council is completing its review of the National Prevocational Framework.  The CRMEC is undertaking  a comprehensive review of procedures throughout 2023 to prepare for the new National Framework that will be introduced in 2024. Please contact the CRMEC Director if you have a specific query regarding accreditation processes.

Accreditation Status

South East Regional Hospital (Bega)

South East Regional Hospital was awarded a four year accreditation in March 2023. The CRMEC and HETI accreditation survey team visited the hospital in April 2026.

Accreditation Report

North Canberra Hospital

North Canberra Hospital was visited by a survey team in April 2022 and awarded four year accreditation. A Compliance visit was conducted in May 2023. The CRMEC accreditation survey team will visit the hospital in April 2026.

Canberra Health Services

Canberra Health Services was awarded a four year accreditation in September 2021. The CRMEC accreditation survey team will visit the hospital in July 2025.

Goulburn Base Hospital

Goulburn Base Hospital was awarded four year accreditation in May 2020.
The hospital is due to be reaccredited by CRMEC and HETI in 2024.

Moruya Hospital was awarded a four year accreditation in June 2023. The CRMEC and HETI accreditation survey team will visit the hospital in May 2027.
